The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 387 calls for service from Friday Aug. 18, to 9 a.m. on Monday Aug. 21, 2023. Below are some highlights from those reports.

Stolen vehicle recovered

A person was arrested after a proactive patrol led police to a stolen vehicle.

On Aug. 20, 2023, around 12:15 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers observed a suspicious vehicle at the Halston Connector Road and Halston Avenue. Police checks confirmed the silver Kia had been reported stolen out of Alberta.

While officers were present, two people fled on foot, one of which was located in a nearby bathroom with the vehicle’s key in her possession. A Kamloops woman was released with conditions and a court date, with charge recommendations anticipated as part of the assessment and approval process. The second suspect remains outstanding.

Spray-painted vehicle confirmed stolen

The wrong license plate on a pickup truck led Kamloops police to the recovery of a stolen vehicle this weekend.

On Aug. 20, 2023, around 2:35 p.m., a Kamloops RCMP frontline officer was on the 800-block of Schubert Drive when he observed an unoccupied truck, spray painted black. The license plate attached to the vehicle belonged to a Mazda and was confirmed stolen from Kamloops. Police checks on the truck confirmed it had also been reported as stolen out of Chetwynd. A conductive energy device baton was located and seized for destruction. The truck was taken to a tow yard to be retrieved by its owner.

Theft from vehicle leads to arrest

A man wanted on a warrant was taken into custody during a theft from motor vehicle investigation.

On Aug. 20, 2023, at approximately 3:50 p.m., Kamloops police received a report of a stolen backpack containing electronics and other items, taken from a vehicle on Columbia Street West. As part of the investigation, a suspect was located nearby and arrested.

The stolen property was returned to its rightful owner. Police checks on the suspect revealed he was also wanted on a warrant out of Barriere and he was held in custody as a result. He received a court date and conditions related to the theft file, for which charge recommendations are anticipated as part of the assessment and approval process.

New vehicle stolen from business

Police are looking for a dark blue 2024 Mazda CX-3 GT that was stolen from a business on the East Trans Canada Highway Saturday morning.

On Aug. 19, 2023, around 6:40 a.m., the Kamloops RCMP received a report of the stolen vehicle, taken after the culprit broke into a business and made off with several sets of keys. The stolen car was driven onto the highway at a high rate of speed by a man wearing a mask.

Patrols in the area failed to locate the vehicle. Anyone who witnessed, has video, or information related to the theft is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2023-29909.

Mental health apprehension and assault

A man was taken into custody after police responded to a weapon’s call on Ord Road Saturday evening.

On Aug. 19, 2023, around 5:35 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to a residence where a man who was allegedly experiencing a mental health crisis, had gone after a person known to him with a large knife, assaulted him, and was making threats.

Officers arrived on scene and located the suspect. He was arrested for offences related to assault with a weapon causing bodily harm, uttering threats, and others. He was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and taken to the hospital for medical assessment and care. Charge recommendations are anticipated as part of assessment and approval process.
