File # 2023-31663

Two people are in custody and investigators are seeking more information, after a vehicle failed to stop for police and crashed into a no-post at Summit Drive and Victoria Street West.

On Friday Sept. 1, 2023, around 9 a.m., a Kamloops RCMP Municipal Traffic officer was making patrols when he attempted to stop a black SUV for speeding. The vehicle did not stop, sped away, and crashed into the road barrier.

Two people were observed fleeing from the vehicle, but thanks to the quick response from officers, they were located and taken into custody soon after, with the assistance of the Police Dog Service Unit and Community Service Officers, said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson. Fortunately, no one was injured in this incident and no other vehicles were struck. The suspects currently remain in custody while police investigate further.

Anyone who witnessed or captured dash camera video of the crash or its occupants as they fled the vehicle, is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2023-31663.
