File # 2023-29729

Kamloops RCMP frontline officers are on scene at a Brentwood Avenue residence where one man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries earlier today.

On Friday, Aug. 18, 2023, just after 1 a.m., police were called to the area for a report of shots heard and a person screaming. Officers arrived on scene where a man in his 30s was located suffering from injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. A suspect was allegedly observed running toward the river.

The investigation is still in its infancy and a visible police presence remains in the area while officers secure the scene, canvass the neighbourhood, and collect evidence that may be related, said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson. We are requesting that residents please contact police as soon as possible if they have any security or dash camera footage from the area, or if they heard or saw anything that may be related.

Members of the Southeast District Emergency Response Team and the Police Dog Service assisted frontline officers at the scene as they searched for a suspect. So far, no one has been located.

The Kamloops RCMP General Investigation Support Team, Serious Crimes Unit, and Forensic Identification Services are assisting to advance the investigation. At this time, the shooting appears to be targeted.

No further information is currently available for release.

Anyone with information related to this investigation is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2023-29729.
