The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 455 calls for service from Friday Sept. 15 to 9 a.m. on Monday Sept. 18, 2023. Below are some highlights from those reports.

Assault investigation, man charged

A man is facing assault and assault by choking charges, after police were called to a residence on Howe Road Sunday night.

Around 10:35 p.m., on Sept. 17, 2023, officers attended the address in response to a report, which involved two people known to each other. A man was taken into custody and held for a bail hearing, during which he received a release order with conditions and a new court date.

Overlander Bridge apprehension

Police safely apprehended a man on the Overlander Bridge in response to a report of a person experiencing a mental health crisis Sunday night.

On Sept. 17, 2023, around 10:40 p.m., multiple Kamloops RCMP Detachment frontline officers responded to the north side of the bridge, where they located an intoxicated man. The man was taken to hospital for assessment and care under the Mental Health Act, then released back to police.

He was lodged to sober up safely, then assessed by the Integrated Crisis Response Team prior to release, without process.

Business break and enter

A thief made off empty handed Monday morning, but not without creating costly damage.

On Sept. 18, 2023, around 5:35 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers received a report of a smashed front window at a business on the 200-block of Victoria Street, accompanied by the sound of someone inside. A suspect was observed fleeing the business through the broken window, with no merchandise. He was described as male, wearing a red hat and blue sweater.

Police attended, cleared the premises, and patrolled the area, but the suspect was not located. Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2023-33932.

Valleyview break and enter

Police are looking for suspects and witnesses related to an early morning break-in at a Valleyview business.

On Monday Sept. 18, 2023, around 5:10 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers attended the 100-block of Oriole Road for a report of an alarm. On scene, police discovered a smashed window and missing cash drawer.

A suspect was described as a Caucasian male with tattoos on his arm, wearing a sleeveless winter jacket, and a bandana covering the bottom half of his face. Police patrolled the area, but the suspect was not located.

Roadway closed for suspicious package

Traffic was diverted near the Overlander Bridge on Sunday morning while police investigated a suspicious package.

On Sept. 17, 2023, around 10:30 a.m., police received a report of a suspicious item on the side of Victoria Street South, heading toward the entrance of the Overlander Bridge. Kamloops RCMP frontline officers attended and cordoned off the surrounding area, including roadways, as a safety precaution. In consultation with the Explosive Device Unit, the item was inspected by police and confirmed not be an explosive.

It was removed and the roadway was reopened.
