File # 2024-5082/5089

A report of an unresponsive person in a running vehicle led Kamloops police to a man wanted for robbery.

On Feb. 19, 2024 at approximately 3:30 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers responded to a parking lot on the 400-block of 10th Avenue and located a Honda Pilot. The vehicle was later reported as stolen.

Officers turned off the vehicle and recognized a man inside as wanted on an arrest warrant related to a Kamloops robbery in August, said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson. He was held in custody for a bail hearing, during which he was released with a next court appearance date for Feb. 22, 2024.

Two long guns were also located and seized from the vehicle. An investigation into prohibited driving, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and breach of release order is ongoing, as well as a separate one into the theft of motor vehicle report.

The vehicle was impounded for seven days and the suspect received a 24-hour driving prohibition related to drug impairment under the Motor Vehicle Act.

Anyone with video, dash camera footage, or information connected to this investigation is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2024-5082.
