File # 2024-28100

On August 24, 2024, just before 1:00 p.m., Prince George RCMP received a report of a car-jacking on the 4100-block of Airport Road.

Witnesses stated the suspect, later identified as 29-year-old Prince George resident Tanner Meier, pushed an elderly woman out of a parked car. Mr. Meier then attempted to push the elderly driver out of the open driver’s door. When that was unsuccessful, the suspect accelerated away from the airport with the driver’s door still open. The vehicle crashed not far from the airport, causing the driver to be ejected from the vehicle. Mr. Meier continued to drive the vehicle until it broke down a short distance away. Police officers quickly located and arrested the suspect near the broken-down vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The passenger also sustained injuries that were determined not to be serious in nature.

Multiple charges have been approved in this matter including robbery, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, assault, and driving while prohibited. Mr. Meier will remain in custody until his next court appearance, states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.

Police officers would like to thank all of the witnesses who remained at the scene of the car-jacking to provide their information to investigators. If you have information relating to this investigation and have not yet spoken to the police, please call the Prince George RCMP non-emergency line at 250-561-3300 to speak with a police officer.

The investigation remains ongoing.
