File # 2024-4023

A Kamloops man is facing five charges and a police vehicle is out of service, following what began as a prohibited driver investigation.

On Friday Feb. 9, 2024, around 1:15 p.m., a Kamloops RCMP frontline officer was making patrols downtown when he observed a man he knew to be driving while prohibited.

Recognizing the area was crowded, the officer did not pursue the vehicle and instead, waited until he had relocated it in an alleyway on the 100-block of Nicola Street, said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson. In the alley, the officer advised the suspect that he was under arrest, at which point he allegedly fled, striking the police vehicle in the process.

Officers patrolled the area but did not locate the vehicle.

Around 12:50 a.m. on Feb. 10, the suspect was located by police at 8th Street and Lethbridge Avenue, where he was arrested. He was held for a bail hearing and released with conditions and a next appearance date for Feb. 15.

Tyler Murray Larocque, 26, of Kamloops is charged with flight from police, drive while disqualified, dangerous operation of a conveyance, assault a police officer with a weapon, and resisting arrest/obstruction.

Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2024-4023.
