RCMP arrested one person during their investigation of an alleged stolen vehicle that led police from Hatzic to Chilliwack.
On May 5, 2021 around 3:30 p.m. Mission RCMP responded to a report of a pickup truck stolen from a residence in the 9000-block of Shook Road, Hatzic. Evidence gathered by investigators associated a suspect with a destination of Chilliwack to the allegedly stolen vehicle. Mission RCMP immediately broadcasted the information to the Chilliwack RCMP and RCMP Air 1.
From the sky, Air 1 spotted the pickup as it travelled from Agassiz, through the valley, to a residence in the 9800-block of Candow Drive, Chilliwack, relaying the vehicle’s location to the Chilliwack RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) who tracked the vehicle along the journey.
CRU supported by the Lower Mainland District Integrated Police Dog Section (IPDS) immediately arrived at the residence where police arrested the suspect.
Brian Robert Stephan, 36, of Chilliwack remains in custody charged with break and enter, motor vehicle theft, fail to comply with court order, and obstruct a peace officer.
The timely manner RCMP officers in Mission provided details to counterparts in Chilliwack together with the deployment of support resources were responsible for the arrest, says Corporal Mike Rail spokesperson for the UFVRD.
