IHIT called to Burnaby to investigate homicide

IHIT has been called to Burnaby after a shooting which has left one man deceased.

Just after 10:30 p.m. on January 23, 2024, Burnaby RCMP frontline officers responded to multiple reports of shots fired in the 5500-block of Kingsway, near Denbigh Avenue. When police arrived, they located a man suffering from serious gun shot wounds. Police and first responders attempted life saving measures, however, the man was pronounced dead on scene a short time later.

Police have secured the scene and will remain in the area as the investigation continues.

At this time, investigators believe the shooting was targeted and there are no further risks to the public from this incident.

IHIT has been notified and has taken conduct of the investigation. Further details will be handled by the IHIT Media Relations Officer.

Homicide investigators are looking for witnesses or anyone with dash-cam video in the area of Kingsway and Denbigh Avenue on January 23, 2024, between 9:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.
