Prince George

2021-04-09 10:02 PDT

In an effort to help educate our neighbours and provide crime prevention information regarding theft of/ theft from vehicles, the Prince George RCMP would like to remind everyone to Keep in mind what you leave behind. We encourage you to remove all valuable items from your vehicle and always to lock your vehicle. Additionally, you can protect yourself by parking in well-lit areas and not leaving your spare key inside your vehicle.

Keep in mind what you leave behind

Keep in mind what you leave behind!

While during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic IMPACT saw a decrease in thefts of auto (by 20.6%) and thefts from auto (by 24.2%), since many places where people would normally leave their cars for periods of time were closed down, those numbers will begin to creep up as restrictions ease. After this current circuit breaker shutdown, IMPACT and ICBC are asking vehicle owners to resume safety practices before they get out of their vehicles.

IMPACT is also continuing to encourage vehicle and homeowners to practice the 9 p.m. routine by securing your valuables and locking your doors daily at 9 p.m. The primary goal of this routine is to cut down on easily preventable thefts.

We encourage our neighbours to remain vigilant and report suspicious or criminal activity to the Prince George RCMP by dialing 911. Remember, Keep in mind what you leave behind!
