File # 2020-12911

Kamloops RCMP were forced to close the Halston Bridge to all traffic Tuesday evening while responding to a report of a weapons complaint.

On April 21, 2020 at approximately 7 p.m., Kamloops Rural RCMP responded to a report of a hostage situation inside of a residence located in the 1200-block of Kootenay Way. Out of an abundance of caution, while acting on the information available to police at the time, RCMP closed down the Halston Bridge, evacuated a few residences in the immediate area and called upon the Southeast District Emergency Response Team to assist.

As a result of continued investigation as the situation unfolded, police deemed the complaint to be unfounded in nature.

The Emergency Response Team cleared the residence where the incident was allegedly happening and found it to be empty.

In all situations, the RCMP must take the appropriate steps to ensure public safety, stated Cpl. Jodi Shelkie. In this case, the police report was unfounded.
