Police looking for leads in Red Bridge assault

The Kamloops RCMP Detachment is hoping the public can help identify suspects after an early morning assault sent one man to hospital.

On Monday January 11, around 3 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers attended the Red Bridge near Lorne Street for an assault involving a maintenance worker and two men in an older dirty sports utility vehicle. According to the report, a maintenance worker was repairing pot holes on the bridge when a southbound vehicle was observed travelling at a high rate of speed.

A verbal exchange occurred between the maintenance worker and the two men in the SUV, which led to all parties confronting each other outside of their vehicles. One of the men tried to take the worker’s shovel and during the struggle, the worker was punched, knocking him out and causing him to fall on the roadway.

The two men sped off in their vehicle southbound toward Lorne Street. The worker was transported by ambulance to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
