Update: Kamloops RCMP looking for a man in the river

The Kamloops RCMP Detachment is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a man who was reported as disappearing into the Thompson River Thursday night.

On January 28, around 7:30 p.m., Kamloops RCMP received a report of an unknown man walking into the Thompson River, dunking his head into the water, and trying to swim across. According to witnesses, he bobbed up and down several times before disappearing under the surface.

As of this morning, February 1, a number of searches have occurred, but no one has been located or identified.

So far, the area has been searched utilizing RCMP frontline officers, Police Dog Services, Air Services, and the dive team; as well as Kamloops Search and Rescue volunteers and the Kamloops Fire Department.

The RCMP dive team is expected to return to the Thompson River on Tuesday to resume its efforts.
