The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 306 calls for service from midnight Friday January 29, to 9 a.m. on Monday February 1, 2021. Below are some highlights from those calls.

Stolen truck leads to arrest


A man faces several charges after police responded to a report of a stolen truck Saturday morning.

Around 1:13 a.m., January 30, Kamloops RCMP frontline officers and members of the Crime Reduction Unit responded to a report of a stolen truck on Tenth Avenue. The truck was abandoned shortly after on the 1100-block of Battle Street. A man matching the suspect’s description was located nearby.

John Beauchemin, age 34 of Kamloops, is charged with theft of motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle while prohibited, and failure to comply with a release order by occupying the seat of a motor vehicle and by failing to obey a curfew. He was remanded in custody. His next court appearance was scheduled for February 3, 2021.

Police officer assaulted during call


A Kamloops RCMP frontline officer was assaulted after responding to a report that someone had shot themselves.

On January 30, around 8:10 p.m., Kamloops RCMP attended the area of Nechako Drive in response to a possible mental health crisis. Police attended and confirmed no one was injured. While police were searching a person for possible weapons, the person allegedly became combative and bit a police officer.

The person was arrested in relation to the assault and released on an Undertaking with a court date.

Truck stolen while warming up, one man arrested


The wrong person drove away in a truck that was left running to warm up Sunday evening.

On January 31, around 5:50 p.m., Kamloops RCMP received a report of a stolen vehicle travelling down Tranquille Road and being followed by its proper owner. Police located the truck and followed it at a distance to a parking lot on Dallas Drive, where a man exited the vehicle and was arrested.

The man was lodged in cells and later released on an Undertaking with a court date.
