File # 2021-8481
A rural camping and music event is unfortunately being investigated by the Tk’emlups RCMP
Detachment.
On the evening of March 19th, 2021, frontline Tk’emlups RCMP members responded to a complaint
of a large gathering at a campground 13 km’s up the Tranquille Criss Creek Road. Upon arriving,
frontline officers found approximately 200 persons camping in the area utilizing motorhomes,
trailers and tents. A small stage like structure was set up and loud music was playing. Frontline
officers attempted to speak to several of the campers to identify the organizer but there was very
little cooperation on the part of the attendees.
These types of events are disheartening and put our frontline officers and those in attendance at
said S/Sgt Bill Wallace, NCO in charge of the Tk’emlups Detachment,
great risk to COVID 19if this
turns out to be a super spreader event, these attendees could be potentially bringing COVID 19
home to their parent or grandparent having devastating results.
Public safety is a priority for the RCMP and we encourage everyone to adhere to the orders being
implemented to keep everyone safe and reduce the risk. People in Canada have a democratic right
to lawful and peaceful protest and the RCMP must use discretion when balancing a citizens rights
with the current potential health risks associated to large public gatherings. The RCMP continues to
liaise with Public Health into this the investigation and when the organizers of this event are
identified they may face fines under the current EPA Protective Measures Order (COVID 19).
The Tk’emlups RCMP is continuing with this investigation and if anyone has any information
regarding this event or is able to identify the organizer, you are please asked to contact the
Tkemlups RCMP at (250) 314-1800.
