File # PSA

A special operation to crack down on theft led to the capture of four wanted people, the recovery of merchandise, and a seizure of street drugs.

On April 22, 2022, a team of Kamloops RCMP Detachment frontline officers attended retail stores on Hillside Drive to provide extra enforcement in response to ongoing complaints about thieves making off with shopping carts full of stolen merchandise.

Three police officers arrest a person in a parking lot.

During the blitz, officers arrested a woman for theft who was also wanted on a warrant out of Prince George; recovered $800 worth of stolen merchandise from a woman wanted on a Vernon North Okanagan warrant; executed a warrant on a Kamloops prolific offender; and seized 275 grams of suspected cocaine and meth from the vehicle of a man also wanted on a warrant.

Targeting prolific offenders in an attempt to reduce property crime and to hold those responsible for it accountable, is a priority for the Kamloops RCMP Detachment, said Superintendent Sydney Lecky. Through projects like this, we hope to capture and prevent more prolific offenders from getting the chance to continue to steal from the businesses and people of Kamloops.

In addition to special enforcement opportunities, the City of Kamloops and RCMP Crime Prevention Unit will continue to work with businesses on proactive initiatives to help reduce theft in the community.
