The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 412 calls for service from midnight Friday April 29, to 9 a.m. on Monday May 2, 2022. Below are some highlights from those reports.

Assault with a weapon investigation

2022-14019

A man was arrested and a woman was taken to hospital, following a report of an assault with a weapon Saturday night.

On April 30, 2022 around 10:35 p.m., police received a request to assist ambulance with a suspicious report involving a stab wound on the 500-block of Battle Street. Frontline officers attended and located a woman with a visible injury. She was transported to hospital where her wound was determined to be non-life threatening.

A man was charged for assault with a weapon and held for court. He received a release order, conditions, and new court date.

Firearms seized

A report involving an assault, threats, and firearms, led to a heavy police presence in Westsyde this weekend.

On April 30, 2022, around 8:28 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers attended and surrounded a residence on Westsyde Road. Police convinced the suspect to come outside and arrested him. Inside, officers located several firearms, including a sawed-off shotgun. They were seized for public safety.

The man was charged with one count of assault and held for court, during which he received a release order and new appearance date. Anyone with information related to this investigation is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2022-14123.

Suspicious vehicle: drugs and weapons located

A loaded gun, brass knuckles, and baggies of illegal drugs were seized by police investigating a suspicious vehicle report early Sunday morning.

On May 1, 2022 around 2:10 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers attended the area of Cherry Avenue and Wood Street, where a vehicle was reported idling for more than an hour. Inside the running car, police located a man believed to be under the influence of drugs. The man was arrested for impaired and prohibited driving. A search that followed his arrest located a loaded handgun, cash, ammo, drugs, and other items. The vehicle was impounded for seven days in relation to the impaired driving investigation.

The man was lodged in cells, then released with a court date related to the prohibited driving offence. The investigation into the drugs and weapons is ongoing.

Man arrested for interfering with investigation

Police responding to a person experiencing a mental health crisis received an unwelcomed distraction, leading to an arrest.

On Sunday May 1, around 4:40 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were responding to a call on the 100-block of Victoria Street when an intoxicated person interrupted, became aggressive, and obstructed police from responding to the mental health crisis.

The man was arrested, lodged in cells, and released once sober.

Resident finds stranger in house

A man was taken to cells after a homeowner woke up to find him sleeping on his couch.

On Monday May 2, around 12:50 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers responded to the 1400-block of Aurora Way, where a person had unlawfully entered a house, fell asleep on the couch, and was refusing to leave. As police were en route, the residents were able to get the trespasser out, but he refused to leave and continued to ring the doorbell.

The man was arrested and lodged in cells to sober up safely. No charge recommendations were requested by the homeowner.
