The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 377 calls for service from midnight Friday July 8, to 9 a.m. on Monday July 11, 2022. Below are some highlights from those reports.

Downtown disturbance: man arrested

A report that started as a man throwing garbage escalated into a washroom fire Saturday afternoon.

On July 9, 2022 around 1:30 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to the area of 1st Avenue and Lorne Street for a disturbance. While en route, an update advised police that the disturbance suspect was being assaulted by another man.

Numerous officers attended and discovered the disturbance suspect had locked himself inside a public washroom in Riverside Park. Shortly after, black smoke and the smell of burning plastic began coming out of its vents. The man inside exited and was arrested for mischief. Burnt material, including a smouldering garbage can, was located in the washroom.

The man was taken to hospital for treatment and released with a court date as part of the ongoing investigation.

Found body still alive

A sound sleeper was mistaken as a deceased person in Kamloops Sunday morning.

On July 10, 2022, around 10 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers received a report involving an orange garbage bag with feet sticking out, just off the walking path near Desmond Street and Ridgeview Terrace.

Officers attended and observed a motionless person, who then sat up, and confirmed they had just been sleeping deeply, much to the relief of those attending.

Bear spray assault on the North Shore

A report involving three people being assaulted led to a police presence on the North Shore Sunday afternoon.

On July 10, 2022 around 2:40 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers attended the 400-block of Tranquille Road, where three people had been assaulted with what was believed to be bear spray. Officers located the victims soon after, who were uncooperative with the investigation.
