The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 372 calls for service from midnight Friday Aug. 5, to 9 a.m. on Aug. 8, 2022. Below are some highlights from those reports.

Disturbance call leads to wanted man

Multiple calls about a man screaming and hollering outside of an apartment building led to a police officer executing multiple arrest warrants.

On Saturday Aug. 6, 2022 around 5:45 a.m., frontline officers responded to the 1000-block of 12th Street and arrested a man for causing a disturbance. Once placed in the police car, the man allegedly began spitting and kicking the vehicle, while being verbally aggressive to the officer.

Police checks revealed the man had three arrest warrants out of Kamloops; one for mischief, two for failing to comply with release conditions. He was held for a bail hearing during which he received a new order and court date.

Parking lot assault

Multiple police officers responded to a parking lot on the 1000-block of Hillside Drive Saturday morning for a report of a distraught man assaulting people.

On Aug.6, 2022, around 9:05 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers responded to the parking lot and located a man matching the suspect’s description. When an officer approached the man, he allegedly advanced toward her with his fist raised and refused to listen to commands. The officer deployed a conductive energy device, which was only partially effective, but allowed other members to take control of the suspect and place him in custody.

The man was arrested and released with conditions and a court date related to the assaults, then apprehended under the Mental Health Act and transported to the hospital for medical assessment and care. Injuries received by those involved were reported as minor.

Impaired driver: vehicle crash

A man was arrested following a vehicle crash on Westsyde Road Saturday night.

On Aug. 6, 2022, around 10 p.m., police were called to the 1600-block of Westsyde Road, where a car travelling on Bachelor Drive went off the roadway, rolled down an embankment, and into a home below.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was arrested for refusing to provide a breath test sample. He was transported to hospital for assessment as a precaution, but left soon after and was located by police downtown.

The man received a notice of driving prohibition and vehicle impoundment, as well as tickets for no driver’s license, no insurance, and drive without due care.

Stolen vehicle recovered

A report of two people fighting led police to recovering a stolen vehicle and computer Sunday night.

On Aug. 7, 2022 around 7:50 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to the 600-block of Desmond Street where two people in a green Pontiac were allegedly driving erratically up and down the street and arguing. Police checks on the license plates showed them attached to a different vehicle.

Officers attended the area, located the vehicle, and confirmed it had been reported stolen from Kimberly Crescent in mid July. As part of their investigation, police arrested the female suspect nearby for possession of stolen property. The male suspect remains outstanding.
