File # 2022-37745

A woman was taken to hospital after police located her floating in the river late Thursday night.

On Oct. 20, 2022, around 10 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers responded to a report of a woman experiencing a mental health crisis near the dog park on Airport Road. As police searched the shoreline and called out to the woman, she eventually yelled back and was observed in the water about 100 feet from shore.

As officers awaited a rescue boat, the woman went silent and could be seen floating down the river on her back, her face barely above the water, said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson. An officer decided he could wait no more and bravely entered the river, pulled her out, then began administering emergency response until she regained consciousness.

The person was taken to hospital for medical assistance and care.
