Kamloops RCMP officers are hoping to hit it out of the park this weekend with a softball fundraiser matchup against a team of local Special Olympians.

Cst. Phil Whiles catches a softball behind the plate as Special Olympian Kristin White takes a swing for it during a recent practise session.

This Sunday, Sept. 10, from 2-4 p.m., Kamloops police officers will team up with local firefighters, Community Service, Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement, and BC Corrections officers during the annual fundraiser at the Norbrock Stadium on McArthur Island.

Admission to the family-friendly ball game is by free-will donation, thanks to community sponsors including Engel & Volkers, Safeway, St. John’s Ambulance, Lo-Boy Market, Knights of Columbus, and Paddle Wheelers Lions Club. Refreshment and snacks are also available for cash-only purchase.
Last year it was just such a blast for all of the players, said Kamloops RCMP Constable Phil Whiles, one of the event’s organizers. Playing in the Norbrock Stadium really gave the Special Olympians and the first responders that big league feeling.

Money raised will support local Special Olympics projects.
Special Olympics BC is dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities through sport. The charitable organization relies on public, corporate, and government assistance to deliver low to no cost athletic programs.
