File # 2020-724

In the months of March and April 2020 the Castlegar RCMP had responded to an increase in property being stolen from unlocked motor vehicles. Investigators determined that often these crimes also involved a fraud component, where the suspect used credit cards, which had allegedly been stolen during these reported thefts.

The criminal investigation identified a suspect who police believed was responsible and the matter was forwarded to the BC Prosecution Service for a fulsome review and charge assessment.

The BC Prosecution Service has now approved criminal charges and on January 20, 2021 the Castlegar RCMP arrested 41-year-old Kristian Erb of Castlegar.

Kristian Erb has now been formally charged with four counts of theft of a credit card, four counts of fraudulently using a credit card and two counts of possessing stolen property under $5,000.

Mr. Erb was released from custody to appear in Castlegar Provincial Court on February 10, 2021.
