File # 2021-188

On Monday, February 15, 2021, the Chetwynd RCMP were advised via International Emergency Response Coordination Center that there was an Inreach (spot) activation for an injured Snowmobiler.

In conjunction with Search and Rescue it was determined that there was a risk of an avalanche and had to wait for an avalanche technician to assess the area. The injured snowmobiler required to be extracted as soon as practicable so the Canadian Armed Forces 442 Transport and Rescue Squadron 19th wing Comox was stood up to helicopter in and preform a rescue.

While receiving constant updates with the snowmobilers it was determined that they had been successful in getting to Search and Rescue base camp, at which point he was then airlifted
by the 442 Squadron to a hospital for his injuries.

This rescue would not be possible without the assistance of Search and Rescue, the members of 442 Squadron, victim services worker, and the members of the Chetwynd RCMP detachment.
