Man arrested after confrontation at local business in Kaslo, BC

In the morning of December 5, 2022, Kaslo RCMP responded to a disturbance at a local retailer. A man was located and determined to be causing a disturbance by yelling and swearing inside the business. The staff at the store advised they were afraid of the man.

Later the same day, at approximately 5:32 p.m. the same man returned to the same local retailer in Kaslo. The man was recognized by several witnesses. He is alleged to have hit the glass front door of the business with an axe. The man then allegedly placed a jerry can with what is believed to be gasoline inside the store and set the fuel can on fire.

A passerby attempted to intervene and a struggle ensued. The man broke free and briefly remained on-scene pacing and yelling at the person who intervened. The man eventually fled on foot.

Once police arrived on scene it was quickly determined that the man was arrestable for the allegations of Break and enter to commit arson of an occupied place and Mischief over $5,000. The man was located North of Kaslo on Highway 31 and taken into custody without further incident.

On December 6, a bail hearing was conducted; Alejandro Eytcheson Calderon of Kaslo, BC is charged with:

Mr. Calderon will make his next court appearance on Dec. 13, 2022 in relations to these allegations as well as an allegation of Assault Causing Bodily Harm that occurred in Kaslo, B.C. earlier in the year.

Kaslo RCMP are requesting anyone who witnessed these incidents or anyone who may have video surveillance footage of Front Street in Kaslo on December 5 to contact the Kaslo RCMP detachment at 250-353-2225.
