Vehicle driving on sidewalk:

On January 20th, 2023, a Kitimat RCMP member was conducting patrols on Nalabila Blvd and
observed a pickup truck driving on the sidewalk near Fulmar St. A traffic stop was conducted
and an impaired screening test was initiated. The driver was deemed not impaired and was
issued a violation ticket for multiple Motor Vehicle Act violations.

Please remember sidewalks are not to be used for motor vehicles unless they have special
permissions such as emergency or district of Kitimat vehicles.

Motor vehicle incident:

On January 21st, 2023, Kitimat RCMP members responded to a report of collision between an SUV and a moose around the 22km of Highway 37 S. There were minor injuries in the incident
and the moose did not survive. Kitimat RCMP would like to remind motorists to slow down and
move over for emergency vehicles as members observed many vehicles speed past the scene
and visibility was low due to the darkness.

Impaired driving:

The Kitimat RCMP received a report of a possible impaired driver at the gates of a company in
the industrial park of Kitimat BC during the evening of January 23rd, 2023. A driver was located
and provided a sample of breath into an approved screening device. It was found the driver had
alcohol in their system and was given a 90-day roadside driving prohibition and the vehicle was
impounded for 30 days.

Lost, found, returned:

A backpack was turned into the Kitimat RCMP detachment on January 24th, 2023. The bag had
been located about two weeks earlier, but turned into the detachment when the owner never
returned for it. The owner was quickly identified and advised where the bag was, happily
retrieving the bag shortly after.

Rock thrown at window:

A rock was thrown at and broke a window at a residence on Skeena Street during the evening of
January 24th. Police officers responded to the call and located a rock inside the residence after it
had gone through the window. Patrols were made for suspects, however no one located. If you
have any information regarding this mischief, please contact the Kitimat RCMP at 250-632-
7111 and cite file number 2023-274.
