Traffic compliant:

The manner a vehicle was being operated on Kitamaat Village Road on February 23rd, caught the attention of a fellow motorist, who contacted the Kitimat RCMP with a description of the vehicle. The vehicle was located, and a traffic stop was initiated. The driver was found not to be intoxicated, rather had been looking out at the sea. The driver was provided a caution about paying attention to the road while driving.

Three vehicle collision reports:

February 25th was a busy day for the Kitimat RCMP, who responded to three motor vehicle collisions during the afternoon. The first report was regarding a single vehicle that had slid off south Lahakas Blvd. There was no injuries and no damage to the vehicle. The second report was also a single vehicle that had slid off the roadway, this time on Highway 37. The driver was no longer present and there was no damage observed by the officers. The third collision, also on Highway 37 was more serious. A single vehicle had left the roadway, however it had struck a pole and caused substantial damage to the vehicles. The airbags deployed and both parties were wearing seatbelts, preventing them from serious injury. Both persons were transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The weather has been changing very quickly and severely over the past several days in the Kitimat area. The Kitimat RCMP would like to remind drivers to slow down, drive to conditions and check the conditions of your winter tires.

Unwanted guest:

A report of an intoxicated patron at a business in the 400 block of City Centre was received by the Kitimat RCMP. The person was located and confirmed to be impaired by a substance. The person was arrested for causing a disturbance by being intoxicated in public and was placed in the Kitimat RCMP cells until sober. They were released the following morning without charge.

Impaired refusal:

While leaving the Kitimat RCMP detachment for a routine patrol, a vehicle driving past caught the attention of the officer by the way it was being operated in the early morning hours of February 26th. A traffic stop was initiated, and an impaired operation of a motor vehicle was instigated. The driver refused to provide a sample of their breath, resulting in them receiving a 90-day driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Shattered business window:

A business located on the 100 block of City Centre, Kitimat BC contacted the Kitimat RCMP on February 26th. An employee had arrived at the business early in the morning to get ready to open and noticed that a front window had been broken sometime overnight. The cause of the break is unknown, however CCTV cameras in the area are being checked to see what the cause would have been.

Slow driver:

A report of a possible impaired driver on Haisla Blvd, in Kitimat BC was received by the Kitimat RCMP on February 26th. A description of the driving behavior and vehicle was provided to the investigating officer. The vehicle was located and was being driven very slowly. A traffic stop was initiated, and the driver was found to be sober, however driving very cautiously due to the heavy snow event that was occurring at the time.

ATV theft:

The Kitimat RCMP received a report of a stolen ATV and trailer from Hawk Street, Kitimat BC on February 26th. Investigators made neighborhood enquiries, to see if any residents in the area had security cameras. Several tips were followed up with and the ATV and trailer were located abandoned in the Kitimat area on February 28th. The RCMP would like to thank the people that assisted with this investigation and were happy to be able to return the ATV and trailer. 

Single vehicle collision:

A report of a single vehicle collision on Highway 37 was reported to the Kitimat RCMP on February 28th. The vehicle was located and had left the roadway, rolling onto its side. The driver had been provided a ride before the officer arrived. A follow up was done and the driver was not injured. The vehicle was marked with yellow police tape to prevent further calls and a local towing company was arranged to retrieve the vehicle once weather improved.

Prohibited driver:

While on patrol in the Kitimat area, on February 28th, a Kitimat RCMP officer initiated a traffic stop with a vehicle on Lahakas Blvd. The officer found the driver to be prohibited from driving, resulting in the driver being arrested for driving while prohibited. The driver was released with an appearance notice, to attend court on a future date to answer to the charge. The vehicle was impounded or seven days.
