Shoplifting:

A report of shoplifting was reported to the Kitimat RCMP on March 30th, 2023. It was reported that a male had entered a business located on the 300 block of City Centre, in Kitimat, then left without paying for products. The business was able to recover the stolen property prior to the police attendance. A description of the male was provided to the responding officers who located the male. The male was arrested for outstanding warrants and released with an upcoming court date. (2023-1021)

Impaired driver:

The Kitimat RCMP received a report of a possible impaired driver during the early morning hours of April 2nd. With the description of the vehicle being provided, the investigating officers were able to locate the vehicle within the downtown area of Kitimat BC. A traffic stop was initiated and an investigation into the impaired operation of a motor vehicle was started. The driver provided two samples of breath, and it was found the driver had consumed alcohol before driving. A 90-day driving prohibition was served to the driver and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days. (2023-1044)

Life alert activation:

On April 3rd, 2023, the Kitimat RCMP was requested to assist with ensuring a life alert alarm owner was okay after the alarm was activated and the owner was unable to be contacted. The responding officers were able to locate the owner, in good health, who advised that his life alert alarm had been acting up and would be having it repaired. (2023-1056)

Impaired driver:

While on patrol on Nightingale St, Kitimat BC, during the evening of April 3rd, a Kitimat RCMP officer was flagged over by a motorist that was concerned about a possible impaired driver. The vehicle of concern was located and a traffic stop was initiated. It was found that the driver had consumed alcohol before driving, as a result the driver was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days. (2023-1061)

Sextortion scam alert:

A report of sextortion from a local resident was received by the Kitimat RCMP on April 4th. The victim reportedly sent intimate photos on a social media platform to someone they had only met online. The victim then began receiving threats to release the photos to friends and family if they didn’t pay. Scammers create fake profiles on social media and dating sites. They use these profiles to lure unsuspecting victims into a relationship and coerce them to perform sexual acts on camera or to send photos. Those sessions are recorded and the images are then used to extort further sexual imagery or money. Sending money is unlikely to make the threats stop. If you are the victim of sextortion, immediately block the suspect on all social media platforms and contact the police. You can learn more about these scams at cybertip.ca. (2023-1064)

Cause a disturbance:

The Kitimat RCMP were advised of a possible intoxicated individual causing a disturbance on the 1400 block of Cormorant Ave, Kitimat BC, on April 4th. Kitimat RCMP officers attended and located the individual who had consumed an intoxicating substance, resulting in being arrested for causing a disturbance by being intoxicated in public. The individual was booked into the Kitimat RCMP cells and released, without charge, once sober. (2023-1066)

Mischief under $5000:

Mischief to a vehicle parked on the 300 block of Quatsino Blvd, Kitimat BC was reported to the Kitimat RCMP during the evening of April 4th. It was reported that tires were slashed and the vehicle had been keyed. While the Kitimat RCMP officer was on scene investigation, a suspect was identified and arrested for the mischief, as well as an outstanding warrant. The suspect was released after being provided a court date to answer to the charges. The investigation into the mischief is still ongoing. (2023-1078)
