Motor vehicle collision:

A report of a vehicle hitting an animal on Highway 37, north of Kitimat BC was received by the Kitimat RCMP on April 13th, 2023. The vehicle was found to have struck a moose, causing extensive damage as the moose rolled over the length of the car, before getting back up and wandering back into the forest. Luckily there was no injuries to the driver of the vehicle.

Found wallet:

A wallet that was found on Lahakas Blvd, in Kitimat BC was turned into the Kitimat RCMP detachment on April 14th , 2023. The investigating officer located information for the owner, however has been unable to contact them. If your wallet is missing, or you know of someone missing their wallet, please contact the Kitimat RCMP detachment so it can be returned.

Malware fraud:

The Kitimat RCMP received a report of a fraud over $5000 on April 14th, 2023. It was reported that an electronic form was opened on a personal computer, which also launched a malware program. It is believed the malware allowed an unknown perpetrator to access the computer and transfer funds from the owner’s bank account. A police file number was provided and the computer owners bank is investigating the loss. No insurance:

While making routine patrols in the downtown area of Kitimat BC, a Kitimat RCMP officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was found to have expired insurance on April 16th, 2023. The driver wan unable to produce their drivers license and checks confirmed they had a valid class learners license. Unfortunately, the driver did not have a passenger with them that carried a valid class 5 license, which is required. As a result, the driver was issued a violation ticket for no insurance, drive contrary to restrictions and fail to produce a driver’s license. The vehicle was towed from the location. (2023-1210)

Noise bylaw:

During the late evening of April 16th, 2023, the Kitimat RCMP received a report of loud music coming from a residence on Quatsino Blvd, in Kitimat BC. Kitimat RCMP officers attended and located the source of the noise and had a discussion with the residents. A warning regarding the local noise bylaws was given and the music was stopped for the remainder of the night

Lahakas Blvd collision:

Several reports of a single vehicle collision along Lahakas Blvd, Kitimat BC was received by the Kitimat RCMP during the morning commute on April 17th, 2023. Kitimat RCMP officers located the vehicle and driver up on a median. It was found the driver was intoxicated, as such they were issued a 24-hour driving prohibition. The vehicle was driven from the scene by a friend after receiving a boost start. No damage to the vehicle or median was noted.

Equipment stored:

On April 19th, 2023, the Kitimat RCMP received a report that lawn equipment was stolen from in front of a business located on Enterprise Ave, in Kitimat BC. Investigation revealed that another company had noticed the equipment left out, seemingly unattended and unsecured. They moved the items for safe keeping until the following day. (2023-1254)

Assault:

A 911 hang up call led to the investigation of an assault on April 19th, 2023. The Kitimat RCMP responded to an abandoned 911 call on the 700 block of Lahakas Blvd, Kitimat BC. On arrival, the officer located a victim of an assault. The assailant was identified and taken into custody a short time later. The investigation is ongoing and the suspect was release on an upcoming court date to answer to the charge of assault. (2023-1259)
