Collision with bicycle

On May 4th 2023 an officer on patrol came across a collision involving a vehicle and at cyclist. A youth riding a bicycle crossed Kingfisher mid-block in the Nechako Centre area and ran into the side of a vehicle traveling towards Haisla Blvd. The youth suffered minor injuries. A ticket not issued to the driver of the vehicle as there was no violation.

By-law noise

On May 5th 2023 Kitimat RCMP received a bylaw noise complaint. The complainant stated loud music was coming from a neighbouring apartment unit. The Kitimat RCMP attended to the scene and warned the occupant of the apartment unit when the noise was coming from.

Suspicious person

On May 6th 2023 the Kitimat RCMP responded to a complaint of a suspicious person in the area of Albatross Ave. The male was reported to be banging on house doors and windows. The male was stopped by police and fled on foot. The male was seen again and ran into a gully near Kitimat City High. The male was yelling threats to kill a police officer. The Kitimat RCMP attempted to deescalate the situation however the male refused to exit the gully. With the assistance of the police dog the male was taken into custody and taken to the hospital.Charges are pending.

Check well being

On May 7th 2023 the Kitimat RCMP attended a report of a male sleeping under some stairs in
the area of City Centre mall. Kitimat Fire and Rescue also attended to check the male who was
fine. The male was referred to support agencies in the area.

Counterfeit money

On May 8th 2023 a complainant reported finding a counterfeit $100 Canadian bill. The file
remains under investigation.

Bear call

On May 9th 2023 at 1:10 am, the Kitimat RCMP responded to a bear complaint in the area of
Nechako elementary school. A witness stated that the bear was scared away by someone with
bear bangers. Upon attendance by police the bear could not be found.

Theft of phone

The Kitimat RCMP received a report of the theft of cell phone. The complainant reported the
phone was stolen while it was left unattended at the pool. The file remains under investigation.
