Attempted fraud:

A Kitimat resident was almost the victim of a fraud over $5000 on June 8th, 2023. The resident had intended on withdrawing cash after receiving an alleged call from their grandson stating they needed bail money. The resident was provided with a number to call once they had the cash and arrangements would be made to pick up the money. The police were notified when a concerned citizen heard this story and after speaking to the resident, it was determined it was a false story. This fraud and several others are well known and the Kitimat RCMP would like to remind everyone to educate yourselves and your family to ensure you can be protected from scams and fraud. Fishing patrol:

On June 10th, 2023 a Kitimat RCMP officer made proactive patrols along the riverbank near Dyke Road in Kitimat BC. Several persons fishing in the area were checked for fishing licenses and open liquor. No violation tickets were handed out, however individuals were educated on the fishing laws and cautioned for open liquor consumption. Broken shed window:

During a routine patrol on June 11th, 2023, a Kitimat RCMP officer was flagged down by a pedestrian to report a mischief that had occurred sometime overnight. It was reported that a window in a shed on Raley Street had been broken when an unknown culprit(s) had thrown a rock through it. Neighborhood enquires were conducted and cctv footage of the area was checked, however this incident was not captured. Intoxicated in public:

The Kitimat RCMP were called to a disturbance on the 1500 block of Kingfisher Ave on June 13th, 2023. The Kitimat RCMP officers attended and found an intoxicated subject. The person was arrested for causing a disturbance by being intoxicated in public. They were lodged in the Kitimat RCMP cells and released without charge once sober, (2023-2124)

Toy knife causes concern:

A concerned citizen contacted the Kitimat RCMP on June 14th, 2023, after seeing a young person playing with a knife near the 200 block of City Centre, Kitimat BC. A Kitimat RCMP officer located the young person and had a discussion with them. It was learnt that the knife was plastic. The youth was talked to about pulling out real looking items in public that could be used as a weapon, and the concern that can cause the public. (2023-2137)
