The wildfire sparked near the Dokkie subdivision, located in the Wildmare Creek area, 9 km west of Chetwynd, BC, has led to an Evacuation Alert for residents.

As of April 25th, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., the Evacuation Order initially applied, has been rescinded and moved to an Evacuation Alert for the area.

The highway is now open with alternating, one lane traffic being led by a pilot car.

The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) has issued an Evacuation Alert for the Dokkie Subdivision, and from Wildmare Creek to the border of the District of Chetwynd.

RCMP, along with partners from Search and Rescue, Chetwynd Fire, BC Wildfire and BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS), are actively engaged in helping people stay informed and safe.

RCMP are encouraging people to check DriveBC (drivebc.com), to keep up to date on current road conditions, and/or closures.

For the status of any active Evacuation Orders and Alerts, visit the PRRD (prrd.bc.ca) website.

We’re encouraging everyone to comply with all evacuation orders and alerts, and to show respect for the traffic control measures enforced by Argo and RCMP officers, says Cpl. James Grandy, BC RCMP spokesperson.
