Pedestrian collapses on the side of the road in Fruitvale

On Friday, September 15, 2023, at 2:41 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer was conducting a routine patrol in a marked vehicle when he observed several motorists assisting an unconscious 45-year-old Windermere man found laying on Highway 3B near Bluebird Road, in Fruitvale, BC. The man reportedly collapsed in this location according to an eye witness.

The officer was able to rouse the man back into consciousness. The man appeared confused and disoriented, and he was reportedly to be in pain. The officer contacted BC EHS who attended the scene and transported the man to Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital for medical treatment.

Trail RCMP would like to thank the motorists who stopped roadside to assist the man in medical distress. Their compassion likely made a huge difference in the man’s future wellbeing and recovery. says Sgt. Wicentowich

Alleged theft doesn’t pass the officer’s smell test

On Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 3:05 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer responded to an alleged theft of $1600 worth of perfume from a business located in the 1300 block of Cedar Avenue, in Trail, BC.

The officer reviewed surveillance video footage that allegedly depicted a 36-year-old Trail man stealing several bottles of perfume from a store shelf on three separate occasions. Another officer located the man in an alley in downtown Trail. The officer arrested the man for Theft under $5000 contrary to Section 334(b) of the Criminal Code. He was released at the scene with a condition not to go into the store.

Trail RCMP will forward three counts of Theft under $5000 contrary to Section 334 of the Criminal Code to Crown Counsel against the man. The 36-year-old Trail man will make his first appearance on December 7, 2023, in Provincial Court, in Rossland, BC.

Please check your firearms licence before leaving home

On Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 6:07 a.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer was conducting a routine patrol in a marked police vehicle when he observed a 65-year-old Trail man driving his 2017 Chevrolet Silverado truck at 110 km/h hour in a 80 km/h speed zone in the 8000 block of Highway 3B, near Trail, BC. The officer detained the man and his vehicle roadside.

The officer discovered that the man was going hunting and in possession of two firearms. The officer checked the man’s firearms licence and found it had expired. The officer seized both firearms and the man may face criminal charges for possessing firearms without a valid licence. The investigation continues.

Hunting season is upon us and it is an important time for some in our community. Please check the validity of your hunting and possession licences ahead of time to avoid such incidents. Theft of garden planter box from community garden

On Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 9:45 a.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer received a report of a garden planter box stolen from the community garden located in the 2000 block of Riverside Road, in Trail, BC. The planter box was believed to have been stolen overnight.

The planter box is purple, 3’0 x 2’0 x 2’0, has a metal plaque screwed into one side, and is valued at $500. If you have any information about the whereabouts of the planter box, please contact the Trail Detachment at 250-364-2566 to speak to an investigator.

This planter box belongs to the community and plays an important role. It brings the neighbourhood together and produces food. Many people put in hard work to make this garden grow. If you took this planter, please return it immediately. says Sgt. Wicentowich

Help, my bush got watered and I can’t cut it up

On Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 12:05 p.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers responded to a medical alert trigger by a 79-year-old Fruitvale woman when her neighbour, a 60-year-old Fruitvale man, accidently sprayed her with a hose while she was trimming a bush in her yard in the 100 block of Nelson Avenue, in Trail, BC.

Officers attended the scene and both parties were calm. The officers discovered that there was a dispute over who owned a bush at it appeared to be located between the two properties. The officers recommended that the pair consult their landlord about property lines and bush maintenance. The woman agreed not to trim the bush until the matter was resolved. Both parties hoped to resolved the matter peacefully.

Truck smashes through gates at local baseball diamond

On Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at 9:21 p.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers responded to a report that a 42-year-old Trail man had allegedly driven his 2013 Ford truck through the gates of a baseball diamond located in the 3000 block of Laburnum Drive, in Trail, BC. Witnesses saw the truck travel across the field, plow through a chain-link fence, and then fall down an embankment before coming to rest.

The man extricated himself from the truck, ran to a neighbouring residence and threw a propane tank into a back window, and ran into traffic several times while nearly being struck by vehicles.

An officer arrived on scene and attempted to verbally deescalated the man. The man allegedly punched the officer then attempted to flee. The officer arrested the man, and after a brief struggle, brought him under control with the assistance of a second officer and bystanders. The man was transported to the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital for a medical assessment.

Trial RCMP continues to investigate and plan to forward criminal charges to Crown Counsel for assessment.
