On Monday, January 1, 2024 shortly after midnight, Smithers RCMP responded to a report of multiple burn victims in the 4500 Block of Henry Rd.

Initial investigation indicated that 30-40 people were gathered around a bonfire when something was thrown into the fire resulting in an explosion. Several people were injured as a result. The injuries sustained have been described as minor to significant burns however none are believed to be life threatening. All required medical attention and were taken to hospital.

Smithers RCMP are seeking witnesses, or people who may have taken pictures or video during the incident.
