On Christmas Eve, Sunday, December 24, 2023, at 12:18 a.m., Trail and Greater District RCMP officers responded to an alleged a poke in the nose between siblings after an argument ensued for being in each others space inside a residence the 3400 block of Marigold Drive, in Trail, BC.

A 55-year-old Trail man started an argument over laundry with his 46-year-old sister and ended up getting his nose poked when he got too close to his sister’s face. He wanted his sister arrested for the poke and removed from their house. The officer explained that the incident was mutual given their actions that lead up to the incident.

This Christmas season, like others, was no doubt filled with pokes, elbows, noogies, arm burns, and other annoying sibling assaults, making parents wish for the start of school, says Sgt. Wicentowich.

Alleged impaired driver gets roadside suspension

On Christmas, Monday, December 25, 2023, at 9:44 p.m., a Trail and Greater RCMP officer received a report about a suspected impaired driver travelling in a vehicle on Highway 3B from Salmo to Fruitvale, BC. The officer was informed that the vehicle was be swerving on the road and had nearly caused a head-on collision with another vehicle.

The officer conducted a patrol in a marked police vehicle on Highway 3B. He spotted the alleged driver, a 37-year-old Trail woman, and her vehicle travelling 130km/h in an 80 km/h speed zone as it entered into Trail. The officer detained the woman and her vehicle roadside. While roadside, the officer made observations that lead her to believe the woman’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. A demand was read to the woman, who provided a sample of breath roadside that resulted in a fail.

The 37-year-old Trail woman was issued a 90-Day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) under Section 215 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act and had her vehicle impounded for up to 30 days.

Backcountry winter rescue

On Saturday, December 30, 2023, at 5:20 p.m., Trail and Greater District RCMP, Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue, BC EHS, and Rossland Search and Rescue responded to a report of a 41-year-old Rossland woman who had injured her knee near the Igloo Cabin on Mount Lepsoe, near Rossland, BC.

The woman and her husband had been backcountry skiing when the injury occurred. The couple was properly prepared for the outdoors and an emergency. The woman required assistance in getting out of the dark and remote area due to her injury. SAR members rode snowmobiles and extracted the woman on a sled and to safety around 10:00 p.m. The woman was taken to Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital for a further medical examination and is in good condition.

This couple was prepared for this emergency when disaster struck. This makes all of the difference when waiting for rescue. Thank you to all of the responders to came out and make this a successful and happy ending, says Sgt. Wicentowich

Man with warrant arrested by Trail RCMP

On Monday, January 1, 2024, at 12:55 a.m., a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer was conducting a patrol in a marked police vehicle when he observed a vehicle associated to a 53-year-old Salmo man with an outstanding warrant for his arrest in the 700 block of Victoria Avenue, in Trail, BC. The officer detained the vehicle roadside.

The man was a passenger inside the vehicle. The officer took steps to identify the man who declined to cooperative when asked for his name. Once the identity was confirmed, the officer arrested the man on his outstanding warrant and took him into custody. The man was held for a bail hearing and later released by a judge to appear at a future court date.

White powdery stuff found in Trail

On Monday, January 1, 2024, at 5:06 p.m., a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer received a report about a suspicious occurrence in the 900 block of Milligan Avenue, in Trail, BC. A witness had seen three unidentified men take a bin from one vehicle and place it into another and left the area. White powder was left on the roadway after the bin was moved from vehicle to vehicle.

An officer attended the scene and tested the substance which was believed to be drywall dust.

I certainty hope no one mistook it for another substance before the officer arrived. This appears to be the only white powder we are going to get in the area this year to the disappointment of local skiiers, says Sgt. Wicentowich.
