Trail RCMP on patrol and checking wellbeing during cold snap

Trail and Greater District RCMP officers were conducting patrols and on the lookout for vulnerable people during the second weekend in January 2024. As the temperature plunged, officers received requests from the public to check on the wellbeing of local citizens at risk from exposure to the severe cold, in addition to their pro-active patrols.

Officers ensured that anyone in need of a warm space was informed about the warming centre in the United Church located at 1300 Pine Avenue, in Trail, BC.

Fortunately, the Trail United Church and its volunteers opened up their hearts and facility with a in-the-nick-of-time warming centre for the duration of the cold snap. The warming centre was well attended and full every night. says Sgt. Wicentowich The warming centre is open again tonight.

Remember that paws freeze too

File # 2024-154

On Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 11:17 a.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer received a report from a SPCA employee about a dog living on the street who appeared to be in distress due to the severe cold in downtown Trail, BC. The dog was discovered tied to a parking meter and believed to have sustained injuries to its paws due to contact with the frozen ground. A SPCA employee did speak to the owner who brought the dog into an enclosed temporary shelter to warm up.

Trail RCMP and SPCA will continue to monitor the animal and situation.

Remember to bring your animals inside during the cold weather for their safety and wellbeing. Says Sgt. Wicentowich. Please report any animal welfare concerns to your local SPCA or police agency.
